Visiting scholar, Lama Itzot will be performing poetry written in Chinese and Nuosu Yi language.  The Nuosu Yi are native to the Cool Mountains of Sichuan province and their mythic folk hero is Zhyge Alu.  The "native tongue" poetry scene among younger Nuosu poets is increasingly vibrant. Like many other contemporary Nuosu Yi poets, Lama intertwines traditional folk themes with current themes of cultural and environmental change.  His work has recently appeared in The Borderlands of Asia: Culture, Place, Poetry (Cambria Press, 2017).

Please join us for the reading -- students are encouraged to attend.  Poems will be read in English, Nuosu Yi, and Mandarin Chinese.  Shorts clips form films you young Nuosu Yi filmmakers will also be featured.

This event is co-sponsored by the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures. For more information, visit https://deall.osu.edu
