Throughout spring semester, the Ohio Field School class has been reading texts about the Appalachian region, ethnographic methods, and conducting fieldwork in Scioto County. After spending their spring break week working alongside community partners, the students are eager to share their experiences of both place and process.Charlie Birge & Zoe Enciso-Edmiston will report out about their work with the Portsmouth Area Arts Council and their production of Willy Wonka Jr. Frank Isabelle and Anping Luo will discuss their week pulling invasive species across several counties with Josh Deemer, Southern District Preserve Manager for the Division of Natural Areas & Preserve at the ODNR. Molly Todd, Ana Mitchell, and Luna Luo detail their process of assisting with the restoration of local poet Brian Richards’ Bloody Twin Press (you can check out original printings from the 80s and 90s at Rare Books & Manuscripts here at OSU!). Lastly, Mariah Marsden and Laura Thomas describe the Farm Books project that they carried out with Barb Bradbury of Hurricane Run Farm, which included digitizing ledgers and letters from the 1930s-present. Light refreshments will be served.[Image of Ohio Field School students and community partner, Barb Bradbury, on top of Raven Rock Nature Preserve.
