Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. The Center for Folklore Studies went abroad!

Director Katherine Borland, Assistant Director Cassie Patterson, and Graduate Students Assistants Jordan Lovejoy and Sarah Craycraft presented at the 2018 Appalachian-Carpathian International Conference in Yaremche, Ukraine, on September 19, 2017. The conference drew together scholars, professionals, and activists in Appalachian Studies and studies of the western Carpathians. U.S. delegates and Ukranian presenters discussed comparative sustainable development in mountain regions and shared  research on cultural and traditional life in these spaces. Dr. Borland and Dr. Patterson presented work based on field research from the Ohio Field School in Scioto County, Ohio; Jordan presented about storytelling and environmentalism in southern West Virginia; and Sarah presented about commemorative narratives in the New River Gorge National Park.
