Call for Proposals

The Center for Folklore Studies (CFS) invites Graduate Teaching Associates (GTAs) and non-tenure track faculty in any discipline across The Ohio State University campuses to apply for an $800 pedagogical research stipend for implementing approved curriculum that meaningfully incorporates use of the Folklore Archives into undergraduate coursework. Any GTA or non-tenure track faculty member at any OSU campus is eligible to submit a short proposal. Please consult with the CFS Archivist at cfs@osu.edu for guidance.

Accepted applicants will design and implement a new original set of lessons that achieves all of the following criteria.

Criteria:

• Thoughtfully integrates folklore into a pre-existing course
  • Applicants are encouraged to consider how the Folklore Archives could be used as part of pre-existing learning objectives and outcomes for their class.
• Lasts at least two full class sessions
• Utilizes materials in the Folklore Archives as a central part of the learning process
• Meaningfully engages with folklore as a concept
• Requires students to produce a short video, audio, digital, or written project demonstrating their understanding of the archives and the folklore they contain
• Encourages novel, informed scholarship using the Folklore Archives

Only one submission per person will be allowed.

Proposal Format:

Proposals will be submitted electronically. Proposals should be linked to in your email message or saved in .doc, .docx, or PDF format and attached to your email. All submissions should be no more than two thousand words and include:

• A description of how folklore materials will be integrated into course design
• A list of rigorous but practical goals for students to pursue as part of the unit
• An explanation of how the use of the Folklore Archives will align with the course description.

Applicants with accepted proposals will incorporate their modules into classes they are currently teaching. Once the modules have been completed, participants will submit instructions for other instructors to complete their lessons along with a written report on successful aspects of their lessons and areas for growth. Modules must be incorporated into undergraduate class sessions no later than Monday, April 26, 2027.
