Foulis receives Provost's Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer

Elena Foulis

Elena Foulis, senior lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, has received the Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer, which annually recognizes up to six lecturers, senior lecturers or other associated faculty for their teaching excellence.

“It’s important to stress the extraordinary commitment Dr. Foulis demonstrates in all facets of her life,” wrote one of Foulis’ nominators. “Elena always takes the time to go above and beyond what is expected of her job description and serves as a shining example of what it means to practice what you preach in regards to civic engagement, community outreach and living as a servant leader.”

“She routinely teaches Spanish 5689S, a Spanish-service learning course designed to expose students to the diverse and growing Latina/o community in Ohio,” wrote another. “In this role, she has established, nurtured and sustained relationships with key Latina/o serving organizations in our community.”

Foulis and other recipients will be recognized with a $5,000 honorarium, supported by the Office of Academic Affairs.
