Visiting Scholar Symposium: Ethnographic Voices from Southwest China

Following the 2015 and 2018 symposiums, involving the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) and the OSU Center for Folklore Studies (CFS), this year’s symposium will continue the cross-cultural dialogue with a different set of presenters.  The featured speakers  explore facets of the diverse and vibrant cultural scenes in SW China from the perspectives of material culture studies and folk literature.

Section One: “Voices of Material Arts: Tourism, Tradition and ICH in Southwest China,” featuring Ju Wang (Southwest Minzu University), Meng Tan (Minzu University of China); Liu Meng (Guilin Tourism University). Section Two: “Nuosu Yi Culture Today: Voices from the Cool Mountains (Liangshan),” featuring Lama Itzot (Beijing Normal University), Kaitlin Banfill (Emory University).

Discussants: Dr. Mark Bender (DEALL) and Dr. Cassie Patterson (OSU-CFS).
