Tim Thurston has completed a two year postdoctoral fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, where he worked with a team that has planned the Center’s work in China and Tibet. This has included inviting tradition-oriented Tibetan artists to the Smithsonian and other educational institutions, assembling and managing teams of fieldworkers in Western China to document nomadic material culture and related oral traditions, and creating the first ever Tibetan language MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) teaching techniques for intangible cultural heritage documentation. In September (of 2017), Tim will begin work as Lecturer of Chinese Studies at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
