ACLS publishes Lake Erie Fishermen as an eBook

Joe Herr

The American Council of Learned Societies has just published Lake Erie Fishermen: Work, Identity, and Tradition (1990) as part of their Humanities E-book project, which also features multimedia selections of materials from our Folklore Archives, where the original fieldwork materials are housed. The authors, Tim Lloyd and Pat Mullen, are an alum and emeritus faculty, respectively. ACLS specifically chose this text for their website because of the lasting academic influence of the text and the abundance of original fieldwork in our collection.

The Lake Erie Fishermen Collection will also be linked to the Voices from the Fisheries database, which is sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an agency in the US Department of Commerce.

Like much of the original Ohio-based fieldwork in our Folklore Archives, the Lake Erie Fishermen Collection captures complex and dynamic aspects of occupational folklore that has been transformed once again to meet the needs of students, educators, researchers, and citizens of the digital age.
