Rachel Hopkin takes the summer by storm!

Folklore graduate student in English, Rachel Hopkin, has been hard at work this summer! Hopkin presented Country Down Under, her BBC radio programme about Australian Aboriginal musicians who play country music, at the International Feature Conference in Stockholm. The conference is dedicated to radio documentaries and their makers. (Rachel's travel was supported by a generous grant from the OSU English Department.)

Rachel also served as the Guest Instructor at Texas Folklife’s annual Summer Stories Institute, aka Stories from Deep in the Heart, where she was teaching high school teachers how to make radio pieces about folkloric subjects. This was her fourth year in a row in this role.

Lastly (at least for now!), Rachel published her review of Ola Belle Reed and Southern Mountain Music on the Mason-Dixon Line. 2017. 2 CDs and book by Henry Glassie, Clifford R. Murphy, and Douglas Dowling Peach. Journal of American Folklore 130/516:248-250.
