Recap: Graduate Student Conference

"Our Shared Traditions: More than Human Experiences" conference on February 28th and March 1st, was an incredible success! Graduate students from the Folklore Student Association led the way in creating a vibrant and welcoming conference space where scholars and community members from around the country gathered to engage with folklore and ethnomusicology through academic work, conversations, workshops, performances, and jam sessions. This was the 15th annual conference, led on alternating years by graduate students from Ohio State and Indiana University, and it was undoubtedly one of the best!
Graduate students had the space to share their work and their expertise in folklore, musicology, and ethnomusicology. Undergraduates had the opportunity to present work from their folklore classes, some for the very first time! Community members from Columbus’s Cbus Jammers led a rousing musical jam session. Keynote and guest lecturers Langston Collin Wilkins and Laura Siragusa delivered informative, engaging lectures. I certainly left the conference feeling inspired and motivated to build community and further the work of folklore studies and music research!
