SP23 Paper Awards for Graduates and Undergraduates

$200 paper prizes

It's time to apply for our annual spring awards. The Patrick B. Mullen Graduate Prize is funded by the Patrick B. Mullen Endowment Fund, which was established in recognition of the contribution and influence of Pat Mullen on the folklore program and on folklore students at The Ohio State University. The Mullen Endowment is a way of continuing a legacy of excellence in folklore not only at OSU but throughout the nation and world.  The Daniel R. Barnes Undergraduate Prize honors beloved emeritus professor Daniel R. Barnes, who taught folklore and literature courses in Ohio State's Department of English from 1967 until 1995.

The Patrick B. Mullen Graduate Prize is a $200 cash award for the best OSU folklore graduate student paper written during the academic year by a graduate student who is actively engaged in the folklore community at OSU, participates in activities of the OSU Center for Folklore Studies and the Folklore Student Association, and takes courses taught by folklore faculty. Scroll down for instructions on how to apply.

The Daniel R. Barnes Undergraduate Prize is a $200 cash award for the year's best folklore paper by an OSU undergraduate. The paper must be written by a current OSU undergraduate in a folklore course, OR a student enrolled in the folklore minor or concentration OR an active member of the Folklore Student Association. Scroll down for instructions on how to apply.

The deadline to apply for either prize is April 14. Winners will be announced at the CFS spring picnic in late April. For instructions and more information, go to our website or email Megan Moriarty, Humanities Institute Communications Specialist, at moriarty.8@osu.edu.
