Our very own Tim Thurston has recently performed in a comedic sketch entitled "When worshipping at the Snow Mountain Labtse" that was aired as part of Qinghai Tibetan Television Station's New Year variety show. In this performance, Tim the American researcher of Tibetan folklore plays the immensely demanding role of Tom the Australian researcher of Tibetan art. His presence--and ability to recite poems, sing songs, and chant fumigation offerings--authorizes the discourse of cultural preservation, while his incomplete knowledge of Tibetan culture suggests that Tibetans themselves must take responsibility for the preservation of their own culture.
