Nancy Yan is an independent folklorist currently based in Maryland. Prior to academics, she worked with Chinatown, immigrant rights, and labor groups in San Francisco, CA as a grassroots and community organizer.  She taught First and Second Year Writing, Comparative Studies, and Asian American Studies courses for several years before returning to labor organizing work.  Currently, she is a host on the podcast channel New Books in Folklore and serves on the Board of Directors of New Faculty Majority, a national non-profit that advocates for adjunct and non-tenure-track faculty.
