Join the Placemaking 2.0 Educator Committee for an update about their work to produce, implement, and refine five place-based lesson plans using the Placemaking in Scioto County, Ohio traveling exhibit, an initiative of the Ohio Field School Program of the Center for Folklore Studies. Attendees will learn how to use the traveling exhibit banners and sample lesson plans to engage in place-based education in their classrooms!
During summer 2020, an Educator Committee--made up of local teachers and after-school program leaders in Scioto County--drew upon on the exhibit to create place-based K-12 curriculum that was tested throughout the 2020-2021 school year. The Educator Committee focused especially on developing adaptable lesson plans that engage students' local environments during the Covid-19 pandemic. One outcome of P2.0 is a curriculum website that will features 5 lesson plans prepared by the Educator Committee as well as educational resources compiled by the team. Visit u.osu.edu/sciotoplacemaking to view and download lesson plans, link to resources, and connect to other educators!
The Placemaking in Scioto County, Ohio banners will be donated to the Digital History Lab at Clark Memorial Library at Shawnee State University (c/o Dr. Drew Feight) in summer 2021 so that educators and community members can access it long-term.
